Moving is an arduous process. But like most things in life, having the right soundtrack can make it easier to handle. That’s what movies have taught us, isn’t it? Soundtracks make things better? Either way, here’s a short playlist of selected songs that have helped me survive the last two weeks of packing up my apartment.

The Postal Service — A Tattered Line of String
In an effort to simplify things, I looked up “moving tips” online. One website said to put a piece of string underneath the packing tape before taping your boxes shut. In theory, it’s supposed to make it easier to unpack — just pull the string and it rips your tape in half. I tried. It doesn’t work, just an FYI.

Tegan and Sara — Goodbye, Goodbye
Whenever you move, there’s an inevitable purge of belongings, clothing, whatever. For many, it’s a difficult task but let’s be real: Are you really going to wear that sweater again? Is it necessary to keep every ticket stub for every movie you ever saw with your ex? Probably not, and most definitely not. Time to say goodbye.

Passion Pit — Carried Away
At one point, I had to stop myself when I realized I was blindly putting items in a box without actually looking at what I was packing. I had gathered so much momentum that day after bringing home a stack of clean, sturdy, perfectly sized boxes that I had almost started packing things I’d still need prior to moving day. Let’s not get ahead of ourselves, right?

Justin Timberlake — Suit & Tie (featuring Jay-Z)
While packing, I dredged up a lot of clothing that I haven’t worn in a long time. The saddest moment, however, came when I pulled out this one gorgeous dress I bought and never had a chance to wear. So I may or may not have put it on and danced in my living room for a bit. No shame in your game, right?
